Prayer for today: a short prayer for every day of the week
By Sophie · October 26, 2026 · 4 min read
A prayer for today is a short prayer that places this one day, with its plans, people and worries, in God's hands. It asks for what today needs and leaves the rest of the week with God.
Below is a prayer for each day of the week, each paired with a verse, and a one-line prayer for days when there is no time for more.
Why pray for just today
Jesus taught His disciples to ask for bread one day at a time:
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
And He told them to leave tomorrow for tomorrow:
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”
Praying for today keeps the request small enough to be honest and the trust large enough to rest on.
A prayer for Sunday
Lord, thank You for this day of rest. Quiet my mind after the week behind me. Meet me in worship, in the people I see today and in the stillness. Fill me again before the new week begins. Amen.
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
A prayer for Monday
Father, a new week starts today. I give You my work, my plans and the tasks I dread. Help me do everything with care, as if I were doing it for You, and give me patience with the people around me. Amen.
“And what soever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”
A prayer for Tuesday
God, I have choices to make today, small and large. Show me the way I should walk. When I am unsure, help me trust You more than my own understanding. Amen.
“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.”
A prayer for Wednesday
Lord, I am halfway through the week and my strength is running low. Renew it today. Help me keep going without rushing, and rest without guilt when I need to. Amen.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
A prayer for Thursday
Father, open my eyes today to everything I take for granted: my breath, my home, the people who love me. Teach me to give thanks in every circumstance, even the hard ones. Amen.
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
A prayer for Friday
Lord, before this week ends, help me make peace where I need to. Show me anyone I should forgive or ask forgiveness from. Let me end the week with a clean heart. Amen.
“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
A prayer for Saturday
God, thank You for a slower day. Bless my family and the time we spend together. Give rest to my body and joy to my heart, and keep us close to You. Amen.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
A one-line prayer for today
Lord, this day is Yours. Walk with me through it. Amen.
You can pray it on the way to work, before a meeting or whenever the day gets heavy.
How to pray for today
- Pray before the day starts. A minute before the phone sets the tone for what follows.
- Name what is in front of you. A meeting, a conversation, a worry: bring the specific things.
- Come back at midday. A second short prayer brings you back when the day pulls you away.
- End with thanks. At night, thank God for one thing from the day.

Questions
What is a good prayer for today?
A good prayer for today thanks God for the day, brings Him what is in front of you and asks for what you need now. Even one line is enough: Lord, this day is Yours. Walk with me through it.
What does the Bible say about praying for today?
Jesus taught us to ask for daily bread (Matthew 6:11) and not to worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:34). Psalm 118:24 calls each day the day the Lord has made.
Is there a special prayer for each day of the week?
Some traditions assign themes to each day. The prayers above follow the rhythm of a typical week: rest, a new start, decisions, tiredness, gratitude, peace and family.
